Conservation and Cuisine at the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center: Exploring the Wonders of Crocodile Conservation and Culinary Delights

Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, formerly the Crocodile Farm and Nature Park, is a must-visit destination in Palawan, Philippines. This conservation center is dedicated to preserving and protecting various endangered species, focusing on crocodiles. Managed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB), it is a haven for these magnificent creatures. It promotes research studies to understand and conserve their populations further.

As you enter the exhibit area, you’ll be greeted by a display of impressive crocodile skeletons, setting the tone for your unique experience. The facility is home to a broad spectrum of crocodile life stages, from newly hatched babies to awe-inspiring adult behemoths. These animals are carefully segregated based on their size and development stages. The younger crocodiles, typically under five feet in length, are housed behind the building, while the larger, adult crocodiles are kept in open ponds where they can be observed in a more natural setting.

A bridge located above the pond allows visitors to get a closer look and even feed these incredible reptiles, offering an exciting and educational encounter with these captivating creatures. Please remember that the bridge allows visitors to observe and photograph adult crocodiles from above safely. Although feeding these magnificent creatures from the bridge is an option, it may not always be available.

The Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center also features a mini-zoo, densely forested to replicate the natural habitat of Palawan’s endemic animals. Here, you can observe and learn about various mammal, reptile, and bird species rescued from neglected aviaries and cages. This provides a sanctuary for these animals while raising awareness about the importance of conservation and preserving their natural habitats.

Taste the Crocodile Sisig:

Visiting the center’s restaurant is necessary for those with an adventurous palate. You’ll find a unique and delicious dish on the menu called Crocodile Sisig, which is made from naturally grown crocodile meat sourced from Coral Agriventure Farms. This culinary delight offers a tasty treat, and several claimed health benefits, including being low in fat and cholesterol and good for the heart. It is rumored to have aphrodisiac properties, adding to its allure as a must-try delicacy.

Before you leave, make sure to capture a lasting memory. At the end of your tour, you can take a photo of a baby crocodile and a lengthy snake. This unique experience allows you to appreciate Palawan’s incredible diversity of wildlife and create moments you’ll cherish forever.

To bring a piece of this extraordinary place home, visit the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center shop. Here, you can find a range of souvenirs, some made from crocodile skin. These products serve as lasting souvenirs of your visit and contribute to the center’s conservation efforts, as proceeds from the shop support their initiatives.

In summary, a visit to the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, formerly known as the Crocodile Farm and Nature Park, provides an extraordinary opportunity to connect with nature, learn about endangered species, and support conservation efforts. From the captivating crocodile exhibits to the mini-zoo featuring Palawan’s endemic animals, every aspect of the center aims to educate and inspire visitors. Don’t miss the chance to savor the unique Crocodile Sisig dish and bring home a meaningful souvenir, ensuring that your experience at this remarkable destination lasts long after your visit.

Reminder:
1) Be careful when visiting giant crocodiles.
2) Do not use intense flash when taking photos to minimize stress on the crocodiles.
3) Do not make loud noises.
4) Do not tap the tanks to make the crocodiles move.
